Press-On Nail Rocking on the Natural Nail? That Is a Fit Clue
A press-on that rocks during dry fit is contacting at one area while leaving another area unsupported. Use the motion to diagnose width and curve.
If a press-on rocks before adhesive, do not glue it down yet. Rocking means the underside is not making stable contact. Look from the free edge to see whether the center, sides, or base are acting as the pivot, then compare a neighboring size or different curve.

Side-to-side rocking shows that center and sidewalls are not sharing contact evenly. Front-to-back rocking can happen when the base catches near the cuticle or another part of the longitudinal profile makes first contact. Record the direction so you can reproduce the test.
Use that note to choose what to inspect next—width, transverse curve, base shape, or longitudinal profile—rather than translating the pivot into an automatic 'more curve' or 'less curve' rule.
Compare profiles without changing several variables
When two candidates are close in width, keep that width as similar as possible and compare one profile at a time. Rest each tip on the nail without squeezing, photograph the free-edge view from the same angle, and repeat the same light center-and-side pressure check. The better candidate is the one that settles with broader contact and less movement, not the one you can force flat most easily.
If every nearby size in the same shape rocks, stop climbing the size ladder. That pattern suggests the mold family, base shape, or longitudinal profile deserves attention. Switching to another shape or collection is a cleaner test than filing several pieces or increasing adhesive just to make the original mold behave differently.
